The Whirlpool and the River

The Whirlpool and the River

by robert cinque

The whirlpool is made entirely of the river. It has a unique identity for a while, then it dissolves and another whirlpool forms.

The whirlpool is a feature of the river. It does not and could not exist independently from it. The whirlpool did not create the river and is a natural consequence of it.

The body and mind and our sense of ourself as an independent organism are made entirely of the River of Awareness. We have a unique identity for a while, then we dissolve and another lifetime forms.

The bodymindself is a feature of the Torrential, Passionate Current of Life, the Conscious Living Intelligence Which Is Alive As All Things. We do not and could not exist independently of Consciousness, the only God there is.

Consciousness does not come from the brain. The brain and the universe are a natural consequence of Infinite Consciousness. Confusion about this prevents intimacy between God and ego.

Is there a distance between the river and the whirlpool? Between the image and the screen?

And, when the Whirlpool and the Image disappear, do the River and the Screen also disappear?

The Joke is that God is hiding in your Ego. It is literally a Game of Hide and Seek. A Magic Trick of Now you see me, Now you don’t.

The ego forms in the Ecstatic Current of Love just like a whirlpool forms in a River. The problem is not  the whirlpool or the ego.

The problem is bonehead ideas about the ego and all its many limitations and problems. The problem is assuming that when the whirlpool dissolves, Life is over.

This is like saying the river disappears when whirlpools dissolve.

The whirlpool’s fear of dissolving prevents intimacy with the river.

What should we do about this?

Nothing. Just let the River be the River.

This is why authentic Spiritual Life is easier than falling off a log. How much effort does it take to be attracted to what is beautiful?

How much discipline and meditation and practices are required to Notice the Obvious?

Any dumbshit, all bonehead, stupid idiots and fools, can become enlightened spiritual masters simply by noticing What Is Always Already the Case.

Robert Cinque

In addition to writing essays like these, Robert Cinque also builds beautiful, affordable and comfortable yurts for homeowners and businesses in the fabulous Skagit County. Throughout the past three decades, his work has included building and installing wood art at local landmarks like the Cascadian Farm Organic Fruitstand in Rockport (WA), the Birdsview Brewery at the foot at “the American Alps” in the Pacific Northwest’s Skagit Valley, and many others. He has worked with visionary architect and organic designer Sunray Kelley for over 20 years on many beautiful projects. Together, they formed Radiant Homes and are actively engaged in the development of the Living Home, the Bioshelter, the no-mortgage, no-permit, food and energy producing home. Their work has been featured on National Geographic, MTV, Better Homes and Gardens, and represents the Greening of Architecture, a movement they consider to be the most important development since the Industrial Revolution. He says: These essays are about “dungeons of mind, the root of suffering, true sanctuary, and the glorious imperative to live intimately with That Which Is Alive As All Things. They are painful, bloody and hard-hitting (the “truth will set you free, but it will piss you off first”). They are designed to destroy what’s false and cultivate what’s real. They are not merely my opinions or philosophy; they are field reports from the underground where the Lie was deconstructed. They are wrecking balls, cosmic insults to vanity and arrogance, bulldozers and firebombs that burn out the tangled underbrush. They are intended to water the Seeds of Life buried under mountains and centuries of false beliefs, inherited “culture” and ego cults, so-called “religions”, including scientism, masquerading as truth. Idols are routinely lampooned and sacred cows are turned into hamburger as quickly as possible. I really don’t mean to offend any one personally. I’m not after them. I’m after the beliefs that are harming them: the Big Lie, the belief in separation from Love and Truth that strangles the heart and creates terrible, unbearable suffering. I love to help create Sanctuary and Shelter. I am a green builder and enjoy showing others how to build a no-mortgage, no-permit bio-shelters that also provide food and energy. cell 360-393-5663

speaking as a bonafide blockhead , I tend to agree .
I live a stonesthrow from the river Piddle in Dorset ,
which springs forth from the earth where the Cerne Abbas Giant
can be found , in all his glorious fertility . I am , of this river
and I am , of this land but I cannot be certain that my
conscious awareness does not also spring out of
this beautiful living planet , or from its local star .

    • i think the beautiful living planet springs out of Love, out of Infinite Consciousness. How could it be otherwise?

      • markfarrar

        I feel Love , I know consciousness
but I can only think Infinity , so I cannot be totally certain .

  • markfarrar

perhaps if I just replace the word infinity
with a new word , nonstarty , nonendy , unbeginity maybe , or unlimity ?
apparently apeirophobia , fear of infinity , is quite a common problem now .
imagining being everything or being nothing for eternity is too much for some !

    • i’m grateful for your explanations. one of the helpful concepts that i have been developing for my own benefit is the concept of scale. for example when you look at a fractal, everything is there all at once but you are able to appreciate the part that corresponds to the scale of your own size or perception.

we are the little people in an m.c. Escher picture aren’t we ?

    • i have been persuaded to think that myself, which is to say that souls are eternal because we are going to trace out more paths but not necessarily at the same scale that we are observing and interacting with at present. both chaos theory and fractal theory are working together here. if you have not already done so, i recommend digging in to John Conway’s The Game of Life (which isnt a game). John Conway was a monumental Englishman and mathematics professor sadly passed away in 2020.

thank you , Gospel . this is for you , I wrote it in 1996 at Stonehenge ,
in the midst of personal chaos and confusion …..

    intuition .

    unlearn…to live…think that I know it all ,
    I understand nothing…the deeper I fall .

    love…to unlearn…education , indoctrination ,
the language of number…no complex equation .

    learn…to love…imperfections of reality ,
in illusions of time… and sensations of density .

    live…to learn…fractal structure of nature ,
divine order from chaos…perfect now is my future !
